Stigmella obliquella
Species account (old)
Not known to Robson [...], TCD has found it at a number of sites in the north or vc 66. Mines on Salix fragilis were abundant on the River Banks at Chester-le-Street on 15-10-1985 and every year since then. Material was collected and the moths reared from the 1968 crop. It has also been found on Salix fragilis on Waldridge Fell (17-9-1986) and Joe's Pond on 14-9-1988. Several specimens were bred from Salix viminalis mines collected at Lanchester 20-10-1987, the moths emerging on 13-4-1988 et seq. B. N. Rossiter recorded mines of this species on Salix viminalis at Derwenthaugh, Blaydon, in 1988, about which there might be some doubt as Stigmella salicis was abundant in the area, and does under such circumstances occasionally resort to Osier.
