In vc 66 this is very local in its distribution, being limited by its foodplants, Typha angustifolia and Typha latifolia. Only found along the edges of ponds and in other wet habitats where the plants grow. In these situations the moth sometimes occurs in swarms on the Typha seedheads, where they can always be found in late July and August. Kevin Reiling, working the plants in Washington Wildfowl and Wetland Park reported that moths were seen from 14-7-89 to 11-8-89, peaking at 100 plus moths in the middle of the emergence period.
