Species account (old)
This otherwise widely but thinly distributed and locally common species is nowadays very scarce with us. It used to occur on several sites in vc 66 (Robson) [...] from which it has not since been recorded, and both of these include coastal dune sites where Gardner maintained that he reared it from Rosa pimpinellifolia. This most curious phenomenon seems not to have been investigated further: TCD has found it on nothing but Salix spp. During his experience with it in the Western Isles, and on the drier east coast dunes one would have thought that S. repens would have proved suitable and provided greater degree of humidity (on the continent, however, B. T. & S. note Rubus idaeus as being utilized, so members of the Rosacae may be possible in drier situations). The only recent records are that N. Lowe took a single specimen at Dawdon on the coast of vc 66 [...].
