Green Silver-lines
Pseudoips prasinana

Species account (old)
This species was recorded as not very common, though widely distributed in our district' by Robson. [...] It is found in most woodland areas where oak grows in Durham, although being by no means restricted to that tree, having been beaten from birch, beech and hazel, for example, in the larval stage. Its main stronghold seems to be central, along the banks of the Wear, but it has also been recorded from Castle Eden Dene (D. A. Sheppard), the Derwent valley (R. Henderson, Sheppard & Eyre), the Hamsterley Forest trap, Darlington and Lanchester (N. Jackson). Larvae were very abundant on Waldridge Fell oaks on 13 September 1984, when 30 were beaten out in an hour: some of these were kept for breeding, but all proved to be parasitised, which may explain why the imago is never as common as one would expect.
