Spilosoma urticae
Species account (old)
A single larva was found crossing the road near Ravensworth, where marshy conditions prevailed just over the roadside hedge, in September 1968, by M. J. Taylor. It was collected and pupated without further feeding, and the imago duly emerged on 27 June 1969 when its identity was confirmed by TCD. it is still in Mr. Taylor's collection. This was a surprising occurrence of an insect which is not otherwise known from north of Norfolk. Evidently the offspring of a stray female, no others of the brood were ever found.
