Treble-bar
Aplocera plagiata
Species account (old)
Robson was unaware that his 'plagiata' involved two separate species which have now been fully described and identified in all the modern books on Lepidoptera. His records may, therefore, have included some belonging to the following species as well as the present one. A. plagiata was recorded [...] at Sherburn Hill in Co. Durham during the 1930's [...] After the wartime interval came records at Chester-Ie-Street and Waldridge Fell (TCD) [...] More recently they have come in larger numbers with the advent of the light trap. It has been taken in most of the traps and is in many of the lists. Our impression is that although it appears to be widespread it is never in large numbers. It should be looked for wherever a good growth of Hypericum (any species) occurs. It shows a fair degree of variation, with forms approaching ssp. scotica Richardson occurring in some of the upland stations.
