Species account (old)
Robson had no recent records of this moth although it had been known by the old collectors prior to the 1850's. [...] the next sighting was on Widdybank Fell in September 1954, when TCD and J. W. H. Harrison found it in some numbers. After that records came thick and fast and we now know that it is a widespread (but rather retiring) species, which must be on virtually all suitable bogs and mosses. August and September are the best times for it, when, on sunny afternoons it is easily disturbed.
