Robson could only produce a few records for this moth [...] His advice on how to breed it out from sallow catkins was, however, very sound and TCD has followed his method with some success. Generally speaking it is most common in damp valley woodlands where sallows thrive and in Durham it would appear to become more common the further west one goes before leaving the valleys for the hills. In this way TCD has found it as far west as Great Wood in Teesdale, Cowshill in Weardale, Slit Woods, Westgate, also in Weardale and at Gibraltar Point near Hunstanworth where the Derwent is born.
