Species account (new)

This beautiful day-flying moth is something of a prize in England. It is a Nationally Scarce B species which should be looked for in partially coppiced woodland, new conifer plantations, moorland, and bogs. We have four records for the County, two individuals from Hamsterley Forest in 2008 being the latest. The larvae feed on Bog Myrtle and Birch (Downy and Silver); other plants have been used but not commonly. There are two sub-species = hastata and nigrescens. It can be very locally numerous in Scotland
