This is another widespread, common species which is found in our gardens more frequently than X. montanata. Double-brooded in our area but often appearing as if it were single-brooded with a long period of emergence, as the two broods often overlap. Its larva feeds on various species of Cruciferae including our garden Brassicas. It is very variable with some unusual forms like ab. costovata, (see Hoffmeyer, De Danske Maalere, Tavle 6, No. 28) which TCD recently met with. It had been captured by M. Mann who had consulted various local authorities who had finally suggested (tentatively) that it could be Perizoma blandiata D. & S., which it closely resembled.
