This species was only separated from the very similar but much more common and widespread C.alchimiella in 1972 so all records prior to that without specimens or photographs should be recorded as Caloptilia alchimiella/robustella. It is not possible to separate the two species from their mines on Oak and they should be bred through to confirm. The adults are also very similar but it may be possible to separate fresh specimens by a full suite of identifying features. The first record is of an adult taken at light in Stockton-on-Tees on 1st September 2012 and confirmed by dissection. It is obviously still a rare species in the county as there have been just six more adults recorded from widespread lowland sites.
