Brown-spot Pinion
Anchoscelis litura
Species account (old)
Widespread and generally common to abundant [...] it is taken at all the traps, even in Upper Teesdale, and appears in all the lists [...] We would disagree with the comment (MBGBI, 10, 110), ' . . . not normally common near the coast', as there are several coastal sites (the larvae possibly feeding on scrub Hawthorn among the sand dunes) [...]. The moth flies from the last week in August until near the end of October in the lowlands, with a rather shorter flight period at altitude.
