Large Nutmeg
Apamea anceps
Species account (old)
Robson recorded this species as 'Rather local and not very common, apparently preferring, but not confined to the coast' [...] In Durham it has not been seen since the turn of the century, when, judging by Robson's account, it was reasonably well established. Hedworth knew of it at Dunston and Thornley Wood, Eales took it at South Shields and Sang at Darlington: The Hartlepool collectors appeared to know it well, taking it regularly at sugar and campion flowers. Early records extend as far as the Firth of Forth (MBGBI, 10, 199, Map 103) but it is doubtful if the present range of the species extends beyond Yorkshire.
