Great Brocade
Eurois occulta
Species account (old)
This species is, with us, a casual immigrant, mainly from Scandinavia and the Low Countries, to judge from meteorological evidence and also observations on avian drift migrants that have arrived about the same time. Individuals are, in the main, distinctly paler and marginally larger than the (resident) Scottish form. [...] In [1977], a marked immigration occurred to the north-east, as a depression moved across the country during mid-August, giving south-east winds, strengthening and backing easterly, and bringing a good 'fall' of migrant birds to the north-east coast. During this period [it was recorded in] Bolam [on] 15 August [...] Retated to this immigration, P. Howard took one at Dryderdale on 3 August, and TCD. later arrival on 5 September at Chester-le-Street. [...] TCD had one in his trap at Chester-le- Street on 30 August 1954.
