Lychnis
Hadena bicruris
Species account (old)
As in Robson's time, this species remains 'the commonest of the genus' [...] Though taken more frequently than any of its congeners in Durham, it can still not be described as common, though J. P. Robson described it thus in Teesdale in 1927 where it is still taken, and particularly at Middleton-in-Teesdale by I. Findley. It was found on the coast at Denemouth by D. A. Sheppard in 1976, but never in the wooded part of Castle Eden Dene. It has been taken in the Bolam, Darlington trap (JDP, 9 July 1976), the Shildon trap (D. Kipling, 31 July. 1983), at Sacriston (R. Woods, 1978. and M. Mann, 1977 and 1978) and at Chester-Ie-Street both by dusking' on the river banks in 1952, and in the garden trap by TCD nearly every year since. It has appeared in the Hamsterley Forest trap only once, on 7 July 1981.
