Common Rustic
Mesapamea secalis
Species account (old)
In Robson's time A very common species everywhere', and we also find it one of the most abundant and widespread of the Noctuids. It occurs in all forms, with darker individuals possibly still being the more plentiful, though with decreasing atmospheric pollution it seems that the proportions of light forms are tending to rise again. It is in all the lists, and taken in all the permanent trapping sites. The moth is on the wing in a single prolonged emergence from the end of the first week in July until the end of September.
