Common Rustic agg.
Mesapamea secalis agg.
Species account (old)
Robson noted this species as 'Occurring in most places where there is rough ground and plenty of carices and grass', and this assessment holds good today. It is widespread and common throughout [...] Durham, and appears to have escaped the damage done to much of the upland grassy tracts during the war years, probably because it prefers wet,. sedgy sites that would have proved too expensive or difficult to drain. Whether it will continue to do so well in the face of more recent inroads being made by the Forestry Commission remains to be seen. It is taken commonly in all the permanent trapping sites [...] - both in the pale and (less frequently) ferruginous/reddish forms. It has a long flight period, being noted as early as mid-July at lowland sites, but appearing well into October at altitude, where the emergence may be two to three weeks later.
