Gothic
Naenia typica
Species account (old)
Robson recorded this species as 'Generally common in all parts [...]'. [...] In Durham it is both widespread and common, but TCD [...] notes little attraction to light. He has come across the imago more frequently by 'dusking' and searching by torchlight at night, when it can often be discovered at flowers of various kinds. He recalls a memorable night on Waldridge Fell in July 1954 when moths of many species (with typica well represented) swarmed at Juncus flowers in scores. The larvae are easily found amongst low growing plants such as Dandelion and Dock, and are easily reared and rarely parasitised. The moth has been taken at Sallow blossom as early as 25 June, but normally with us flies from early July to mid-August.
