Species account (old)
Widely distributed and very common, reaching from the coastline to high moorland (where by day it is often taken at heather blossom) at well over 300m. Forms approaching the reddish (southern) varieties occur with rather less frequency than the type. The moth flies from the end of the first week in June in coastal areas, but later inland, through to early August.
