Robson gives an account of the early discovery and flight habits of this species, and quotes records [...] [at] Neasham Lane, near Darlington (J. Sang), Blackhall Rocks (J. Robson, Mr. Gardner), Roker (Mr. Corder), near Marsden (Mr. Eales) and the Hesleden/Castle Eden Dene area (vars.). It is still known well in its cliff-top haunts from Blackhall Rocks to Beacon Point in Durham, always on well-drained limestone grassland. The only presently-known inland colony in that county is in Cassop Vale, and again this is on a very dry limestone grassland bank facing south. [...]
