Species account (old)
This is a very rare species [...] although possibly quite widespread. It should be looked for wherever there are well-established poplars. Robson [...] only knew of it around Hartlepool whence John Gardner had written 'on poplars in gardens about Hartlepool, scarcer now than formerly' [...] one was found resting on a Poplar trunk at Sadberge by T. Lofthouse on 29 May 1918, and TCD has taken it at long intervals since 7 July 1951 (about every 8-10 years) in his garden light trap at Chester-Ie-Street: apparently the moth is established in the Poplars there, but the larvae have never been found (It may be that they keep to the upper branches).
