Species account (old)
In Robson's time '. . . a much rarer species . . . than the next [Pheosia tremula]' [...] P. Robson found it in Teesdale in 1927, E. Smith found its larvae on birch at Muggleswick in 1930 and J. R. Johnson and J. W. H. Harrison had it at Gibside in 1934. [...] Perhaps the most frequent of the Prominents at light' and certainly this holds good today. B. and I. D. Wallace and Sheppard & Eyre found it in most of the sites they worked [...] notably where there are well-established stands of birch. The moth is recorded from practically every part of Durham, from the limestone denes to the upper dales, with the exception of the coastline. [...].
