Species account (old)
A widespread species, recorded from most of the stretches of open moorland [...] Numbers fluctuate from year to year, possibly because of the rotational burning of the heather, though this is by no means its only foodplant. [...] TCD has [...] seen it on SaIix caprea near Tunstall Reservoir and in Upper Weardale. The males fly wildly over the heather in May and early June but the larger females are content to be searched for, though they do fly at night, when they occasionally come to light.
