Coleophora hydrolapathella
Species account (old)
This species has only recently been added to the British list on its discovery in the Norfolk Broads where its foodplant, Rumex hydrolapathum (great water-dock) is plentiful. A female specimen came to the Chester-le-Street Rothamsted trap on 13-1989 and was subsequently identified by E. Bradford. Maitland Emmet expressed some surprise and suggested a second opinion to make sure of its identity. The genitalia slide has now been seen by Rev. David Agassiz who agrees with E. Bradford's identification. Its origin is still a mystery for the nearest known colony of the great water-dock is 7 miles away at Croxdale, and the moth has not yet been found to live on the plants there. A further search for the foodplant is currently being undertaken.
