Coleophora trifolii

Species account (old)
This species was included in the Coleophora frischella L. noted by Robson. The two species resulting from the split were C. frischella itself in which the larva feeds on the flowers of Trifolium repens or Centaurea nigra, and C. trifolii where the larvae feed on Melilotus altissima or Melilotus officinalis. Robson's description indicates that all his records refer to the Melilotus feeding species. Hence the change of name. Robson lists Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool and Greatham. [...] We have not seen it during our recent investigations. Melilotus is now much less common than it used to be, in our area.
