Species account (old)
The quoted synonymy (mictodactyla Denis & Schiffermuller, 1775; aridus Zeller, 1847; plagiodactylus Stainton, 1851; serotinus Zeller, 1852; hodgkinsonii Gregson 1868, scabiodactylus Gregson, 1869; hirundodactylus Gregson, 1869) illustrates the confusion that persists over the true identity of this insect. Present thinking and research is moving towards a split into five separate species, but in the absence of clear direction we retain the blanket name for all taxa concerned. Very abundant in most of vc 66 except the high western moorland, with concentrations on the Magnesian limestone and old quarries [...].
