Epiblema foenella
Species account (old)
Mainly a southern species, E. foenella had nevertheless reached Hesleden Dene by the turn of the century, where it was known to Robson and Gardner. Further records were limited to one from Low Fell in 1926 and another from Hartlepool in 1977, which may have signalled a northward expansion of its range under apparently favourable conditions that thereafter proceeded apace. On 23-7-1981 TCD took the first specimen in his Chester-le-Street trap, and since then occurrences have been recorded from much of the low ground in vc 66 [...].
