In this case, Rosa pimpinellifolia is preferred to other species and forms of the genus and consequently a markedly coastal distribution is found, although other rose species are occasionally accepted on inland sites. Sang was familiar with it in Castle Eden Dene and on the coast at Blackhall Rocks, and Robson himself knew it in Hartlepool. [...] It seems somewhat scarcer now than it used to be in vc 66, where TCD knows it from only three sites, near Hart in 1969 where it was taken by beating burnet rose, single specimens turned up on two separate occasions in the Chester-le-Street Rothamsted trap in 1985, and one came to the Chopwell trap in 1991.
