An Asian species first recorded in Europe from Germany in 2006 where it is thought to have been accidentally introduced with the foodplant although it may have been present in earlier years. It spread quickly across Europe and the first British record is from Kent in 2007 and it was even recorded in Canada in 2018. As well as being adventive in Britain it also thought to be a primary immigrant from the continent. The first Durham record was obviously an accidental introduction as it was photographed at a flower importers on the Team Valley Industrial Estate in Gateshead on 23rd September 2013. The next record may refer to a true migrant as it was taken at light and photographed at Souter Lighthouse on 29th July 2018. Since then there have been a further 52 records of 64 adults from the eastern half of the county.
