Wood Tiger
Parasemia plantaginis
Species account (old)
In Robson's day 'widely distributed [...]', but we find today that, probably due to the disappearance of many hedgerows that used to form its preferred lowland habitat, it is more restricted to [...] open moorland [...]. [...] In Durham it is [...] known from many moorland sites, e.g. from Edmundbyers and Muggleswick right down to Widdybank Fell (including some of the Weardale moors). An additional habitat in this county where the species does extremely well is provided by the old magnesian limestone quarries. It is recorded frequently from Bishop Middleham quarry and is also on record from Highland House quarry and Thrislington.
