Feathered Gothic
Tholera decimalis

Species account (old)
Robson regarded this species as 'Generally distributed [...] but not very common.' Since then it has increased somewhat [...] J. P. Robson noted it as rare in Teesdale in 1927, and I. Findlay has never taken it in the Upper Teesdale trap. Otherwise TCD has often taken it on Waldridge Fell since 1946, and in the Chester-Ie-Street trap since 1952 and most of the permanent traps take it intermittently, as at Crook, Hamsterly Forest, Durham University Field Station, Bolam and Sacriston. During the 1970's D. A. Sheppard and M. Eyre found it at several stations in the Derwent valley, and the former took it in Trimdon Grange Quarry N.R. on 21 August 1978, one of the Magnesian Limestone quarries. It is just as widespread as the last species [Tholera cespitis] in Durham but never so numerous [...] It is on the wing from late July to earIy September [...].
