Grey Arches
Polia nebulosa
Species account (old)
[...] In Durham, it is [...] a very local insect, where it is found in only three broad areas. Its stronghold is obviously the Derwent valley, where it was first noted, in the larval state, by J. W. H. Harrison in Chopwell Wood in March 1929. In recent times D. A. Sheppard and M. Eyre have taken it at six other stations in the valley, from Thornley Wood up to Park Wood. A second well-established colony is noted by the Sacriston collectors in Charlaw Woods and Sacriston Wood, and thirdly, it occurs regularly in the Hamsterley Forest trap. There is also a record of a single specimen at the Durham University Field Station in Houghall Wood in 1968.
