Mythimna ferrago
Species account (old)
Assessed as 'Widely distributed [...] but not recorded everywhere' by Robson, and by Gardner as 'common'. Today it is widespread over much of lowland Durham [...] it reaches into Upper Teesdale, where I. Findlay takes it freely in his Rothamsted trap [...] The generalisation (MBGBI, 9, 259) that it 'is less common near the coast than inland' [does not hold good] [...] the coastal dunes and denes form important habitats for the species. The moth flies from the last week in June to the third week in August, and occasionally visits Ragwort flowers in daytime.
