Species account (old)
Very much a northern species, this insect occurs from Cheshire northwards into most parts of Scotland. It occurs both on moorlands (feeding on Erica, Calluna etc..), and on lowland waste places and sand dunes, where preferred pabula could be Mentha, Valeriana etc. Sang met with it on the Waskerley Moors and Gardner bred it from Valerian flowers on the sandhills at Hartlepool [...] In vc 66 we have only one further record-from Cuthbert's Hill Moss, the highest point on the moorland road between Rookhope and Hunstanworth (Wallace, 1986) [...]. [...]
