Species account (old)
[Dunn and Parrack treat Stigmella tengstroemi and Stigmella serella separately as follows. Both are now recorded as Stigmella poterii.] [Stigmella tengstroemi] On 31-7-1988 B. N. Rossiter found mines of this species on Cloudberry at 300m. on Whitfield Moor, from which an imago subsequently hatched. This is the first English record for this species, hitherto only recorded from the Scottish Highlands. At present there is some doubt about the validity of the taxonomy with respect to "tengstroem". Conflicting descriptions of cloudberry mines from different localities indicate the possibility of the involvement of more than a single species. [Stigmella poterii] Not recorded by Robson, this species has proved to be somewhat elusive in spite of much searching on our extensive moorlands. In Durham (vc 66) it was first found on Pow Hill Bog as mines on Potentilla erecta in September 1987, where it has appeared every year since. In spite of the amount of material collected, TCD has failed to rear the moth.
