Species account (old)
Not known to Robson, possibly because it is fairly new to the British list The larvae feed on yew leaves, a rather unpalatable pabulum to most living organisms. Dead needles beneath the trees are used quite freely by the larvae and it is possible that fallen leaves of other species may also be used, but we have only found it in the close proximity of yew trees. In vc 66 it is local and only found at five sites, but where it does occur it is very abundant. At the Castle Eden Dene Rothamsted traps, for example catches of lignea can be well over a hundred per night throughout much of July and August. [...]
