Robson found this species 'abundant in all parts [...] except the higher moorlands, but even there it is found in the more cultivated portions' Either this was much too casual a statement, or the status of the species has changed considerably since then. Granted it is still abundant among the more mature dune systems at the coast - and by this we mean that a Heath trap can attract over 100 specimens in a night - but it is doubtful if this could be done in any other habitat. It is still regular to fairly common over much of lowland [...] Durham, in areas of rough grassland with mixed vegetation, and in the latter county ascends to Langdon Beck (386m.) and Cowshill in Weardale[...] The maximum counts in permanent traps are never more than half-a-dozen a night. Larvae occur, sometimes in good numbers, but they are almost always heavily parasitised.
