Species account (new)

The fact that this species was not recorded until May 1990 is probably due to confusion with the more common Brindled Pug Eupithecia abbreviata with which this moths flight period overlaps. It flies in one generation (April-June). Diagnostic features include the large oval-to-round central spot; a white patch distal to central spot; prominent black wedges distal to central spot; black dashes present on veins distal to central spot. The larvae feed on mature Hawthorn and Pedunculate Oak. Adults comes to light in numbers in the right habitat.
