Species account (old)
Though this species is widely recorded from the inland and southern parts of our [county], it approaches the coast no closer than [...] Castle Eden Dene [...] about three miles from the coast. Further inland, records in the Tyne Valley, Derwent Valley and the whole of Durham County are very numerous [...]. The larva feeds most frequently on birch and alder and wherever these food-plants grow the moth can be expected. It is much more widespread and common than Robson thought when he wrote that it was a rare insect [...].
