Species account (old)
This species is not listed in the Catalogue and presumably did not reach this area ninety years ago. Indeed it is only recently that it has been noted. [...] D. Sheppard found a single specimen in Castle Eden Dene in 1972 [...] M. Mann took it at Sacriston in 1978 and '79. [...] It was seen and taken by many members of the N.N.U. during a field meeting in Wynyard Forest in 1981 [...] it was reported by M. E. Blunt from a different part of Castle Eden Dene the same year. In 1983 it arrived, for the first time, in the trap at Chester-le-Street [...] in 1985, it was found, in some quantity, in South Burn Wood on Waldridge Fell (TCD) [...] This is quite a remarkable sequence of records, which illustrates quite clearly how a species can suddenly burst into the countryside and become established in a comparatively short space of time. Undoubtedly one of the success stories of recent years.
