Dingy Shears
Apterogenum ypsillon
Species account (old)
[...] In 1921 J. W. H. Harrison (Vasc. 6, 28) wrote 'To be found everywhere in [...] in the larval condition, under bark of Salix alba; Wreckenton and Low Fell are new localities near Newcastle'. (He recorded it again from Lamesley in 1932 [...]). The moth came to TCD's Chester-le-Street trap regularly (15 -20 each year) during the 1950's and 1960's, at which time it was just as common at light on Waldridge Fell. In the 1970's [...] numbers began to fall off, and there has been a steady decrease until it is now an event to take a single individual. It is now rare at Sacriston too, where M. Mann had only taken one (18 August 1983) and R. Woods none at all.
