Species account (old)
By no means a common species' in Robson's day, it has increased markedIy, possibly since the 1920's [...] Nowadays it is widespread and common throughout [...] being recorded from all the permanent trapping sites. There is a fine dark, well-marked form occurring most commonly at moorland sites, that can be mistaken for B. adusta [...] The moth is on the wing from mid-May to the end of June near the coastline, but continuing at least to mid-July on moorland sites.
