Northern Winter Moth
Operophtera fagata
Species account (old)
This is more northern in its distribution than the last [Operophtera brumata], slightly larger and paler in colour and appearing much earlier, for example, as early as October. Seldom seen after Christmas whereas O. brurnata often keeps on flying throughout January. Not so common as brurnata, its larva is found mainly on birch but it will also eat apple, cherry and plum. We have many records from all over [the county...] wherever birch grows.
