Scarce Prominent
Odontosia carmelita
Species account (old)
This species was deemed to be extremely rare until collecting by light traps, and especially using MV bulbs, became an available technique. Since then the moth has been found to reside in several parts of our [county], although still apparently rather thinly distributed in most of the localities where it is known. Not recorded in Robson's time [...] In Durham at Chopwell Forest where it was first found by R. Henderson in 1975, it is now comparatively common, and seems to be on the increase with as many as twelve per annum, and this merely by collecting at roadside lamps in April and May. It is also found at nearby Thornley Wood and further west along the Hisehope valley by D. A. Sheppard and M. Eyre. There have been occurrences in the Hamsterley Forest trap each year since it began operating in 1981 (TCD).
