Moth Recording in Durham

Have you seen a moth in County Durham? If so, we'd love to hear about it. All records we receive are important; they help us build up a picture of the moth biodiversity in Durham and how individual species are faring. Durham has a proud history of moth recording, and we continue to receive large amounts of data from volunteer records across the county, many of whom run regular moth traps. More information about record submission can be found on the recording information page.

Moths by location

The database contains records from all across County Durham's rich variety of habitats, from the high Pennine moors of Weardale to the saltmarshes of the Tees estuary. The website provides a summary of species that have been recorded in each OS 10km and 1km grid square of the county: use the map to select a square. You can also browse the macro moth species of the county by the habitats they occur in.
